George Kontis Psychologist Brunswick

I’m George, a clinical psychologist practising in Brunswick and East Melbourne who is passionate about supporting others towards growth in the face of their difficulties. I work with adults and late adolescents on a variety of issues including trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, health difficulties, academic performance, life direction and drug and alcohol issues. I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with experience in public and private health settings.

I strive to practice in line with my values of care, compassion, warmth, autonomy and knowledge. My aim is for us to work collaboratively to gather a sense of where you see yourself stuck in life and in what ways you are wishing for growth. Once we have an understanding of the direction you would like to move, I can suggest a number of evidence-based therapeutic approaches that may assist you in that movement.

Beyond specific approaches, it is important that we are able to work effectively together. As part of my practice I seek regular feedback to check in with you to see that our work together is feeling like the right fit and to tailor our therapy accordingly.

Therapies I provide

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Compassion Focussed Therapy

  • I am also trained in three Posttraumatic Stress Disorder therapies:

    • Trauma focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, including prolonged exposure,

    • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and

    • Cognitive Processing Therapy
